Last month changes to the eBay Partner Network’s policy on referring domains took effect. If you blog from WordPress, Type Pad or Blogger this change means you can now earn revenue from links to eBay auctions posted on your site.
Up until last month all domains where revenue-generating eBay links were placed had to be validated. Otherwise the clicks were null. Or at least didn’t earn you any money.
But the validation process was a funky arrangement requiring a text file (yes, as in .TXT) be uploaded to your website. No big deal for Super Geeks, but a very big deal for the aforementioned blogging platforms.
Now why the hell eBay didn’t use a meta tag or something clever is beyond me. Fortunately someone woke up and realized that this thing called social media renders the entire exercise silly.
So if you happen to see more eBay auctions mentioned on Facebook and Twitter, now you’ll know why.
