Austin, Here We Come!
The US Grand Prix is happening this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. Jackie and I are packed and ready (rain gear included) for a weekend of high octane excitement.
It’s been almost 30 years since we’ve attended a Formula 1 race. Back then the championship battle was played out on the streets of Phoenix amongst icons like Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, and the late Ayrton Senna. The short-lived Phoenix street circuit only hosted three F1 races, and in general is not fondly remembered. Street circuits are always challenging- for driver and fans alike- but the unrelenting heat made Phoenix even worse. Ironically the primary sponsor was a sportswear company called Iceberg.
Today the US GP is hosted at a purpose-built facility in Austin. We’re looking forward to our first trek to COTA, and hope the predictions of rain prove false. Fingers crossed!
