Easy Trackback

How’d those @!#&~ get my email address?!?

Ever asked yourself this question?

Old-fashioned email might seem quaint in this age of social media and Web 2.0.. or 3 or whatever we’re up to. Believe it or not, some of us still enjoy perusing the latest emails with their morning coffee. What is not enjoyable is finding a bunch of crap you didn’t sign up for!

Here’s a little-known trick that can help Gmail users track who is sharing their information.

You can add a simple tracker to your email address using the plus sign (+). For instance, let’s pretend your Gmail address is [email protected]. And now let’s say you want to sign up for a newsletter from Sears. Well, you’re a little late… but you could add +sears like this: [email protected]

Messages will arrive in your inbox as usual, but you’ll be able to see they were sent to this “special” address. You’ll want to only use that particular tracker for Sears. So if you suddenly start receiving spam directed to this address, you’ll know those bastards at Sears are the culprits!

Speaking of spam… now you can get spam from me! Scroll down and enter your email address in the form below. But don’t blame me if WordPress gives away your address!
