Explore Forgotten Oklahoma

Ghost town map offers plenty of abandoned places to visit.

I stumbled across this Google Map recently that listed dozens of abandoned and forgotten towns in Oklahoma. It’s not an exhaustive list, but it appears to be pretty thorough.

amzn_assoc_tracking_id = “maduko-20”; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = “manual”; amzn_assoc_ad_type = “smart”; amzn_assoc_marketplace = “amazon”; amzn_assoc_region = “US”; amzn_assoc_design = “enhanced_links”; amzn_assoc_asins = “0878422722”; amzn_assoc_placement = “adunit”; amzn_assoc_linkid = “194daf44c37f3ebb6d2b93f28715158d”;

The map is dated 2015, and I have no idea who to thank for it.

If you want some more background on abandoned towns in Oklahoma check out Ghost Towns of Oklahoma. Originally published in 1978 by the University of Oklahoma Press it’s a bit dated, but a great reference.

Another great reference is Roadside History of Oklahoma. This 1991 tome is the most complete reference on Oklahoma communities I have ever found. Much of the text is assembled from local newspapers and county records and presented in a geographic format along highways. The perfect companion for a Sunday drive!
